Daniel’s Diary: A Busy Week of Property Maintenance Across Epsom & Surrey

If there’s one thing about working in property maintenance across Epsom, Surrey and the surrounding areas, it’s that no two weeks are ever the same. This week has been a perfect example of that — from securing doors and restoring walls, to roof repairs and even installing wildlife-friendly features.
Here’s a look behind the scenes at what we’ve been up to at Daniel Smoker Property Maintenance.
Securing & Refreshing Front and Rear Doors in Chessington
We started the week in Chessington, helping a homeowner resolve issues with both their front and rear doors.
Over time, door fixings can loosen due to weather exposure and daily use — something we see often across Surrey homes. Left unchecked, this can lead to draughts, security concerns, and further structural wear.
This job involved:
Securing both doors where fixings had come loose
Patch rendering around the front and rear door frames
Repainting the porch using durable white masonry paint
Blending in fresh render around the rear door
Not only does this improve the look of the property, but it also strengthens protection against the elements — something that’s especially important with the unpredictable UK weather.
Tip: If your doors feel slightly loose or you notice cracks around the frame, it’s best to address it early before it develops into a bigger repair job.

Installing Swift Nesting Boxes in Stoneleigh
A slightly different task this week — but one we really enjoyed — was installing two swift nesting boxes in Stoneleigh.
Swifts are a protected species in the UK, and their natural nesting spaces are becoming harder to find. Adding nesting boxes is a simple but effective way to support local wildlife.
It’s always great to work on projects that not only improve homes but also give something back to the environment.
Roof Repairs in New Malden
Roof issues are something we’re regularly called out for, and this week we carried out repairs in New Malden.
Whether it’s slipped tiles, minor leaks, or general wear and tear, roof problems should never be ignored. Small issues can quickly escalate, especially with heavy rain and wind.
Addressing repairs early helps avoid:
Water damage
Insulation problems
More expensive structural repairs later on
If you’ve noticed signs like damp patches, missing tiles, or leaks, it’s worth getting it checked sooner rather than later.
Fencing Work in Stoneleigh
We also completed fencing work in Stoneleigh, helping improve both the privacy and security of a property.
Strong, well-installed fencing not only defines your boundary but also adds value and curb appeal to your home.
With the mix of weather we get in Surrey, it’s important to keep fencing maintained to prevent rot, leaning, or storm damage.
